I was born in Bryan, TX, but grew up in Wyoming and Idaho. Dentistry is something that’s interested me since I was in high school. My family dentist was a considerable influence in my life. He allowed me to shadow him at his office and watch through a mirror as he performed a root canal on my two front teeth following a basketball. I was amazed and intrigued from the beginning.
Dentistry has been my life since entering the field in 2008 prior to earning my dental degree from Creighton University School of Dentistry in 2015. Before attending Creighton University, I attended the University of Idaho and received a B.S. in Microbiology.
I attended Creighton School of Dentistry through the Idaho Dental Education Program or IDEP. Only the top eight pre-dental students from the state of Idaho are selected for this program. While attending Creighton, I was elected by faculty members into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) Honor Dental Society. Only ten students per year who demonstrate scholarship and character are elected into the OKU. Some of my other achievements include:
- Quiescence and Leadership awards in Restorative Dentistry, Endodontics, and Prosthodontics by demonstrating top clinical skills and leadership
- Graduating Magna Cum Laude
- The Whip Max Hanau “Best of the Best Prosthodontic Award
- The Quintessence Award for Clinical Achievement in Restorative Dentistry
- The Dentsply Dental Leadership Award in Endodontics
- Dean’s List at Creighton University School of Dentistry, 2011-2015
I am a member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, and also serve as the current 13th District Dental Society President. I love learning and staying current regarding the latest technology and techniques available in dentistry. I’ve had extensive training at the world-renowned Las Vegas Institute, earning over 160 continuing education credits in 2017.
Each day, I go out of my way to treat my patients as I would my own family. I want them to feel comfortable under my care. I have additional training and certifications in both laser dentistry and oral sedation. You’ll find that I love to emphasize the importance of comprehensive treatment that not only makes your teeth look beautiful but also gives them optimal function.
I am married to Kierstin Van Tassell. We have five children. I speak Spanish and have spent several years serving the Hispanic population as a missionary for my church in the country of Chile and during dental school and private practice. My hobbies include cooking and grilling food, woodworking, sports, and being with my family.
